Richard Zednik

Richard Zednik is in stable condition today in a Buffalo area hospital after lifesaving surgery to fix a severed artery. Zednik caught teammate Olli Jokinen's skate blade in the neck yesterday during the Panthers Sabres game. Authorities say Zednik is lucky to be alive today.

It's hard to take things like this knowing that they can happen at any instant in such a dangerous sport. Thankfully the incident was treated quickly and successfully. Our thoughts go out to Richard Zednik and his family.
