Rangers at Capitals - Second Period Thoughts

You simply never want to allow goals in the first or last minute of a period. A defensive breakdown which cancels out what was a solid period of Rangers hockey.

Minus the goal at the end, great period. The Rangers controlled the flow of the game for most of the period. They were very disciplined not taking any penalties and closing up the middle of the ice. They drew penalties by going hard to the net and creating off the rush. Stephen Valiquette continues to amaze.

Chris Drury is one of the few players on this team that would turn and shoot in that situation. Save Dubinsky and Dawes, every other player would take the puck and try to make a pass or a wrap around the net. Great awareness from the guy who is quickly becoming the leader of this team. Also, a fantastic shot block right before the Washington goal was scored.

Need 2 points from this game.
