Rangers at Sabres - Second Period Thoughts

The Henrik Lundqvist Problem --> No, it isn't the play of the franchise goalie but instead the play of the rest of the team when he is in net. As I've written about before, when Stepen Valiquette is in the net the entire team seems to clamp down defensively and shut down the middle of the ice. This shut down D leads to goals and eventually a solid win. However, when King Henrik takes the ice, the Rangers players continue to take him for granted. They think they can take chances that they simply cannot do. They seem to think Henrik will bail them out when he simply cannot. Granted, Henrik's play has definitely been subpar so far tonight but I believe the fault lies on the players outside the crease.

So how to fix this problem. It starts with 2 guys...Jagr and Renney. The first step is that Renney needs to verbally acknowledge the tendancy his team has. Only then can he being to come up with a tactical solution. Jaromir Jagr is the captain of this team and the last person to committ to defense. However, when he sees his team hanging their star goalie out to dry he needs to step up both verbally and lead by example on the ice.

Brandon Dubinsky... wow, simply amazing :)
